14th May 2016- Coach Report – Team A
I would again like to thank the swimmers for their efforts in last night’s gala.
We came 5th overall with 159 points with three first places, which were:
Will Timmins for his butterfly and front crawl
Millie Wells for her butterfly
Some swimmers performed really well and I said last month that one of my measures of success are the number of new personal best times.
With that in mind last night there were two more PBs than at the last round with 18 personal best times, these being:-
Christie Morrow; Kloe Till; Conal Smith for front crawl, Ayla Morris; Sam Price-Tattersall; Freya Davies; Jack Seys; Jessica Cox for front crawl; Will Timmins for butterfly; Millie Wells; Katie Appleby; Freddie Freeston; Sophie Tatton for breaststroke; Dan Williams for butterfly and breaststroke; Adam Heller for front crawl and backstroke and Leon Steer for front crawl. The results will be posted to our website, in the gala zone.
Some swimmers competed in events that we do not have previous recorded times -Ava and Rosie Kind and Lilia Harris, who swam very well.
There are some areas that we will need to work on before the next gala. We were disqualified in two medley relays and an individual swim; more work is needed on backstroke turns and relay changeovers as there was a lot of gliding in.
I also noted there was not always maximum effort and focus for the heats which we picked up and addressed as the event went on.
I would also note some praise-worthy individual swims due to their clear commitment and focus:-
Jack Seys – determination despite losing his goggles in the fly
Millie Wells – fly length in the medley reaching over-taking two swimmers
Ayla Morris – breast length in the medley over-taking two swimmers
Christie Morrow – swimming up in the front crawl medley
Kloe Till in back stroke
Leon Steers – backstroke had great pace in the lengths
Jessica Cox – front crawl effort in her fifth event and team spirit
Sam Tatton for very focused butterfly – coming second
Sam Price-Tattersall and Freddie Freeston for learning from earlier mistakes and gaining the PBs in later events
Conal Smith for swimming six times after being in a running competition earlier today
Katie Appleby for maximum effort and team spirit
I would also particularly thank those who swam up in higher age groups:-
Jessica Welson, Dan Williams, Ella Smith, Freedie Freestone, Sam Price-Tattersall, Will Timmins, Jessica Cox, Christie Morrow and Leon Steer. They provided much needed support for the team when five other squad members could not attend.
Please remember to remind your swimmers to thank our Volunteers before leaving an event.
I hope the swimmers enjoyed the gala and they work exceptionally hard over the next month so we will see even greater personal achievement and great swims in the final round
